Hospital Security Project

Hospitals are by their very nature studies in public access. Hospitals are particularly vulnerable due the unrestricted comings and goings of the general population. Some of the bigger problems include theft of hospital goods and pharmaceuticals, vandalism, robbery, acts of pilferage and violence in the parking areas, theft of newborn infants, and the like.

Baptist Health South Florida is a major provider of health services in the state of Florida. Recognizing the above as areas of concern, in the early 21st century Baptist Health South Florida engaged Duos Technologies to provide digital video surveillance capabilities for one of their facilities. In the years to follow, Duos has hardened virtually all Baptist hospitals, clinics, offices and related facilities.

The system described below is typical of Duos' approach to hospital security. This project provided a turnkey rvsprodigital video surveillance system at the Baptist Hospital of Miami, located in Miami, Florida. The rvspro™ system consists of a combination of 157 fixed and pan/tilt/zoom (PTZ) cameras placed at predetermined locations on the interior and exterior of hospital. Cameras are connected to twenty rvspro™ video servers (and other related equipment) at the hospital data center.

The rvspro™ system digitizes all video from the cameras and transports it to any authorized computer within the Baptist Health LAN/WAN. Duos provides a customized browser based interface to allow access to the system via Internet Explorer. The interface permits real time viewing and control from any camera and allows operators to retrieve and play back archived video using the same Internet Explorer browser window. The search engine is a Microsoft SQL based application developed by Duos. We also provide a system management console for the security department to serve as the central location for viewing real time and archived video. The system management console includes two operator work stations with four independent LCD monitors.

Events are automatically digitally recorded, time stamped, and stored for later retrieval. A powerful video search engine (searched by several criteria including, time, date, camera number, and location) allows for easy retrieval of stored video files. This comprehensive automated system is monitored 24/7/365. Duos provides live on-site maintenance and technical support as well as remote technical support. Operating system updates are applied remotely upon publication.

The rvspro™ Digital Video Surveillance System at the Baptist Hospital of Miami detects threats and significantly decreases vulnerability within the hospital and surrounding areas.
